Colin was born
and raised in Scotland and has lived in Australia since 1985. He started his working life
managing supermarkets in and around Edinburgh. However, after seven years of this he
realised there was much more to life than working so he took off backpacking around the
world. Two years later he returned home penniless and took on a job as expedition
leader/driver of 13 week overland expeditions from London to Kathmandu.
In between layovers in Kathmandu he led treks into the Himalayas to such places as Everest Base camp and Annapurna Sanctuary. Three years later he and a friend spent a year cycling 17,000 km from Edinburgh to Sydney (typical Scot thought it was a cheap was to get to Australia). He has travelled the Trans Mongolian train from Beijing to Helsinki as well as by train from Beijing to Urumqi and Kunming to Hanoi. He has climbed in the NZ Alps and also in the European Alps including an ascent of Mt Blanc. In 1999 he cycled down the Karakorum Highway from Kashgar in China to Rawalpindi in Pakistan. Over twenty years in the travel industry hasnt dulled his sense of adventure and in July 2001 he set off to climb Mustagh Ata, an easy 7500m peak in the Pamir mountains of China.
