Photography in Winter

COLD is the enemy!! This writer recalls a winter walk across Red Square in the days he still used a trusty Nikon FE 35m film camera. I went to shoot an image, first shock was the cold on my hands (had to take gloves off) and the second was when the camera failed to operate! Wind chill had stopped it and this was a majority mechanical camera with only a small bit of electronics. A quick few minutes inside the jacket against my body and it worked. Second problem solved, now for the frist problem - cold hands. The folks at this website have come up with a neat winter mitten which minimises your flesh exposed to cruel temperatures!

Perhaps those amongst readers, who have revived the art of knitting, could whip these up prior to departure!
