Hotel Rachel

Cuba has many hotels based in historical buildings with architectural significance. The Rachel Hotel in Old Havana is just one example. In a Pre-Revolution period this was a mansion belonging to a Jewish Family and is still known as the 'Jewish Mansion', hence the name Rachel.

The hotel is government owned and run so there are a few 'rough edges', but the general character and its location counter balance many of these. Food in the restaurant is nothing spectacular and you can eat better in local restaurants.

Palacio Azur in Cienfuegos is another example of colonial glory now a hotel. Set next to one of their ocean walls you do enter a bygone era. The welcome cocktail is a nice touch!
