Beijing Stopover - Start any date - comprehensive with homestay experience.
Extra nights available

This package can be done any day and will fit any of the Trans Mongolian/Trans Manchurian programmes.

Package 1: Beijing - from the home and hotel - Code BEHH.

We recently visited Beijing and investigated a new option for us in Beijing - homestay. This is not a big concept in China and we only offer this in Beijing at present. We are the people that started the homestay concept in Russia, gradually adding Mongolia, the Central Asian nations and now China.

Day 1        Arrive Beijing
Arrive Beijing* where you are met and transferred to your homestay for one night in Gaobeidian. This folklore village is somewhere near the intersection of eastern 5th road and Chang'an Avenue to the east of the city. It is not very touristy at the moment as it just begun to promote itself to the western tourists. The family stay will be arranged at the homes of authentic local family, and food provided will be the real home food of average Chinese families.

After lunch you will be taken on a tour of this village. You will visit the Furniture Street where you can see many examples of ancient antique Chinese furniture. The local primary school is just around the corner and here you can see how the school works. The Gaobeidian Disabled Health Centre is next door and here you can see how the government takes care of the local disabled people. The son of Deng Xiaoping is a patron of the Centre.

In the evening you will be taken to a traditional Chinese interactive folklore dancing with local villagers and if possible you can visit backstage.

Day 2        The Great Wall
Today is exercise day! After breakfast you will be driven for three hours north east to the Great Wall at Simatai. You and your guide will spend the next four hours walking about 10km along the Wall to Jinshanling. There are some fabulous views and there are some steep sections where you have to watch where you place your feet. Lunch is supplied and what a situation! Then it’s back to your hotel in Beijing late evening.

Day 3        Beijing
Free day to explore places such as the Forbidden City, The Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven. A great way of doing this is by bicycle. However, if this doesn’t agree with you then you can do it by taxi or with private car and guide. Tonight you have a choice of one of two shows (Chinese Acrobats or The Legend of Kungfu) after a Traditional Peking Duck dinner (transfers included)

Day 4        Chuandixiacun Village
After breakfast you will be driven to the historic village of Chuandixiacun. This small village is nestled in a valley about two hours beyond the western suburbs of Beijing. You will have time to wander through the historic courtyard homes set amongst terraced orchards and fields and overlooked by towering peaks. Lunch is in the village.

Day 5        End of stay
After breakfast you will be transferred to the railway station or airport.

* If you arrive late on day one, the tours will be conducted the next day.
