The Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum coffee house in Leipzig is one of the oldest continuously operating coffee houses in Europe, which was first mentioned in records in 1556. Nowdays it is divided into several cafés and restaurants serving speciality coffees as well as other food and drink, while the third floor houses a coffee museum.

Alternatively, the evocative aroma of roasting coffee beans fills the air at the Schmole coffee roasting house in Pirna (on elbe River) where coffee is roasted in the traditional way using a drum roaster made to a late-19th century design. Entering the shop in the historic centre of Pirna is like stepping back in time.
