Chartier Restaurant Paris

Would you willingly queue to get into a restaurant that has a higher than normal ratio of 'grumpy waiters' simple French peasant food, where your tab is scribbled onto the paper tablecloth and tallied when you depart? Not normally,

But 100 year old Chartier may be the exception. This writer has dined there and would do so again. A few years back some clients took our recommendation and visited Chartier. They posted a logo emblazoned serviette back to us with their note written onto it - 'just as you described, who would have thought we would enjoy simple food and grumpy waiters so much!"

Be warned you may have to queue so arrive early if you have trouble making a reservation.

Don't let this image fool you. Not only do they practice their skilful 'plate carrying', but also grumpiness..
