Refreshing new additions to the Yarra Valley Cider and Ale Trail

The Yarra Valley’s popular Cider & Ale Trail is expanding – with a new producer, new brews, and a new map and guided tours to ensure you can taste the best of the region’s unique local beers and ciders this autumn.

Visitors to the Yarra Valley can now grab a copy of the new Cider and Ale Trail map – and explore an array of these innovative businesses including the latest edition to the trail – St Ronan’s Cider.

St Ronan’s craft unique Australian Ciders from apples and pears, and join other operators including Napoleone & Co Cider in producing Methode Traditionnelle products – a fresh alternative to Sparkling Wine.

Many of the brewers and cider makers have released new products, including the Aged Original Ale at Buckley’s Brewery, a gold medal winning bottled Russian Imperial Stout at Hargreaves Hill Brewery and new season Kiwi Fruit Cider at Giverny Estate.

There are also five tour operators now offering specialised ‘cider and ale tours’ in the Yarra Valley – so there’s no excuse to not try them all!

“The Cider and Ale Trail gives visitors a great new alternative to wine and adds to the amazing range of experiences available in the Yarra Valley,” said Julie Sampson, CEO Yarra Ranges Regional Marketing.

“A visit to the breweries and distilleries this autumn, and a chat with the producers, will no doubt reveal some excellent stories and have you coming back for more!”

Book a cider and ale tour now with one of the following operators: Aussie Brewery Tours, Australian Coastal Mountain Tours, Australian Wine Tour Co., Wineries on Foot or Yarra Valley Winery Tours.

THE PRODUCERS

Coldstream Brewery Bar and Restaurant
Opened for business in June 2007 – with a brewery shipped in from New Zealand – Coldstream Brewery now produces world-class cider and beer.

White Rabbit Brewery
This is a brewery that doesn’t like to be constrained and maybe that’s why they like it in Healesville, away from the city where they are free to open their minds to the possibilities. White Rabbit have installed a new beer tap system that will have all the beers and ciders on tap all of the time – making it a perfect location for an autumn tasting session.

Buckley’s Brewery
Just down the road in Healesville, this brewery is leading the way in being an environmentally-aware business by using direct solar water heating in the brewery and even have a beer bicycle to transport their beers to special events. Try the AGED Original Ale they’ve found hidden in the warehouse - a special treat with the characteristic Buckleys malt influence that has mellowed well over the last six years. You may also like to sample the Port Barrel aged Ale or select a gift pack with two ales and two lagers from the Buckley’s range.

Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company
Located in Yarra Glen you can enjoy a range of ales or lagers, or even a delicious Abbey Dubbel and Stout at the family operated microbrewery and restaurant. The new bottled release Russian Imperial Stout won a gold medal at the Australian International Beer Awards, and is an absolute cracker.

Napoleone & Co
The family behind Punt Road Wines has been growing fruit since 1948 and a tasting of the family’s unique pear ciders which has been hand-crafted using fresh Yarra Valley pears is not to be missed. Treat yourselves to Napoleone’s range of medal winning Methode Traditionnelle Apple and Pear ciders – made using bottle fermentation and ageing on yeast lees for up to 4 months, resulting in a delicate and dry cider.

Giverny Estate
Now producing new season Kiwi Fruit Cider – a refreshing drop.

Kellybrook Winery
Producing ciders since the late 1960's after Darren and Farley Kelly founded Kellybrook in 1962 and made both still and sparkling cider from apples grown in their orchard – home of Kelly Brothers Cider Co.

St Ronan’s Cider
Crafting unique Australian Ciders from apples and pears, St Ronan’s use traditional processes that are associated with the production of outstanding sparkling wine and Champagne.
