The 'Rocks Area' Sydney - historical pub tour.

Drinks on the Rocks: pub-tour walk launched

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and a half-dozen of The Rocks pubs have collaborated to create the colourful tour, which they said entertained visitors with drinking stories and anecdotes about some of the local characters and events that have enlivened the area from colonial days to the present.

“It’s certainly not a pub crawl,” SHFA executive director of marketing and communications Sandra Chipchase said.

“It’s a guided tour through Sydney’s historic precinct that shares in the rich folklore of its pubs. These are the places where people have gathered in victory and defeat throughout the history of this city.

“Now we’re encouraging people to rediscover these pubs, as something you’ll like, somewhere you’ll love.”

Pubs participating in the tour include the Fortune of War, the Orient Hotel, Glenmore Hotel, Observer Hotel, the Australian Hotel and the Mercantile Hotel, one of the bars that boomed in the days of the ‘six o’clock swill’.

The twilight tour takes just under two hours and starts from Cadman’s Cottage at The Rocks at 5.45pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Tickets include two standard alcoholic drinks and one non-alcoholic drink, and a meal offer at a participating pub. Numbers are limited to 15 people per tour and participants must be 18 or older.
